NS Norfolk - Teen Program
Teen Programs are recreational programs that provide quality “out-of-school” activities for pre-teens and teens. Teen Programs are offered to meet the needs of the command members. Transportation may be offered by the YP or local school system. Teen Programs are DoD certified, affiliated with Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and offer 4-H programs.
All Teen Programs are designed to offer recreational-based experiential learning opportunities that enhance (rather than duplicate) the school day by integrating age and developmentally appropriate activities based on the knowledge of youth development, and the needs and interests of the pre-teens and teens enrolled in the program. Equally as important, Teen Programs provide important social/emotional growth opportunities that focus on character development, leadership skills, communication, and self-esteem.
The Naval Station Norfolk teen program builds character through everyday leadership and guidance in behavior and attitude. Young people of all backgrounds join together in wholesome recreation and companionship. Our professional staff provides positive adult mentors and role models to help teens succeed in school, stay healthy, learn important life skills, pursue interests in arts and sports and explore vocational choices. Most importantly our teen program shows youngsters that someone cares and wants them to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Our teen program offers exceptional trips and activities that give our teens bigger outlooks on life. We engage in dynamic discussions centered around developing into strong, positive adults. The Norfolk Teen Program is the only teen program in the region that is Accredited through the Council of Accreditation.
